2009 - 2010 BOARD OF TRUSTEES

 Board President - Christine Vargas - Parent Member

Finance Chair  - Scott Mulcahy - Parent Member

Scott Mulcahy is a parent member of the BOT, is Chairman of the Finance Committee, and is also a member of the Executive Committee.  He has a B.S. in Accounting from St. John Fisher College and is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner.  Scott is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.  Currently Scott is the Director of Finance for Zapata Corporation, a financial holding company which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.  Prior to his current position, Scott was an Audit Manager with Arthur Andersen, LLP.


Holly Salce - Parent Board  Member – Chair, Policy and Procedures Committee

Holly Salce joined the BOT in August 2007. Her daughter is a second year student in Mrs. Van Vechten’s class. Holly brings 10+ years of human resource experience focused in areas including organizational development, change management, succession and development planning, performance management, talent and retention strategies, compensation and recruiting. Holly specializes in proactively identifying and diagnosing human resources issues and influencing managers to develop and implement solutions. She has a BA degree in Psychology and Human Resource Management from Saint John Fisher College.

Garland Nichols - Parent Board Member –
Garland joined the BOT in April 2010. She and her husband have two children,  one in the primary program with Mrs Van Vechten and one in the elementary program with Mrs Landis. Garland earned her PhD in Polymer Science from the University of Connecticut and her MBA from Rochester Institute of Technology.  Currently, she works for Xerox in Product Marketing, however she’s held previous positions in research, engineering, product delivery, business operations and marketing.  She also holds many US patents during her stint in research. She truly enjoys continuous learning as she also earned her Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification at Xerox.  Her other interests also include sailing, skiing, running, and cooking.

Birgit Coates - Community Member 

Birgit has been a participating parent in the WMS community since 2003. She has been an advocate for the Montessori teaching method for years, even prior to enrolling her son. Birgit is a reading teacher at the Norman Howard School, a school for children with different learning needs and abilities. She is also a hockey mom, which she never thought she ever would be, but thoroughly enjoy. Birgit is an animal lover, belongs to a wonderful all-women's book club where she has learned that she really enjoys historical fiction.

Lisa Schlonski - Parent Member - Social Committee Chair

Lisa joined the BOT in 2008.  She and her husband have one child who is currently enrolled in the Primary program at WMS as a third year student with Mrs. Van Vechten.  A Webster resident for almost 20 years she is actively involved with WMS in areas of fundraising, marketing, classroom participation, and school spirit.  As a stay-at-home Mom she finds plenty to keep her busy in addition to WMS, she is also a landlord of a Manufactured Home community to 92 families.  Lisa brings to WMS a range of experience from running her own business (financial and marketing), process improvement work, creativity, as well as high energy and a strong desire to spread goodwill wherever she goes.  Her commitment to WMS and all they want to achieve is one of her primary life goals.  She is honored, and humbled, to be on the BOT and hopes to serve her son's school well. 

Marcos Esterman - Parent Member

Marcos Esterman joined the BOT in 2009. All three of his children have attended Montessori dating back to 2001 (two children are currently at WMS). Marcos is an Assistant Professor in the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department at the Rochester Institute of Technology. His teaching interests are in product and process development, and systems engineering. He is also the director of the Print Research and Image Systems Modeling (PRISM) and the co-director of the Sustainable Print Systems Laboratory. Prior to joining the RIT faculty, Marcos worked for Hewlett-Packard’s Imaging and Printing Division in Boise, Idaho, and at General Electric Medical Systems in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Marcos earned a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and his BSME and MSME form the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Luly Nicosia - Board Secretary - Parent Member

Luly joined the BOT in 2009.  She and her husband have three children, all of whom have attended Montessori schools.  Her youngest child is currently a student in Mrs. VanVechten's class.  Luly holds a B.A. from Nazareth College as well as an Assistant's to Infancy AMI diploma from The Montessori Institute in Denver, Colorado.  She taught a Montessori Toddler class for many years before taking a break to be a stay-at-home Mom to her children.  As a child, Luly attended a Montessori school herself.  As a Montessori child, parent and teacher, her belief in and commitment to the Montessori method of education for all children is an integral part of her life.

 Samadrita Roy Chowdhury - Parent Member 

Samadrita joined the BOT in October of 2009. Samadrita has been working for Xerox research as a research scientist since October 2006. She received her PhD in physics, in April of 2006 from Duke University in North Carolina. Before she came to the US for graduate studies, she lived in India and received a master’s degree in physics from the Indian institute of technology (IIT) Madras in 1999 and worked as a research associate at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore from 1999-2000. Samadrita lives in Penfield NY with her husband Nilanjan Dasgupta and her daughter attends WMS. She has a keen interest in education and volunteers as a Xerox science consultant at the Rochester city schools, with an aim to enthuse kids towards Science.  

 

When she is not working, Samadrita enjoys knitting sewing and trying out new cooking recipes from around the world.

 

Robert Carroll - Parent Member - Parliamentarian


Rob Carroll joined the BOT in September 2009 as well as chairing of the Marketing Committee. Through his two daughter’s enrollment as primary students in Mrs. Vargas' class, he became a proponent of Montessori education. Rob has been involved in digital mapping technology and business development over the past 20 years and is currently president of the International Division of Pictometry, a Rochester-based global imagery information company. Over the past 15 years, he has had several senior executive positions in entrepreneurial organizations in Denver, CO. Rob and his family have lived in the Webster community for the past four years and originate from the Toronto area.
